Build Metabolism that Supports Fat Loss - Lean muscle tissue is "metabolically active".  This means it draws upon your body’s energy to maintain it.  A pound of lean muscle tissue can burn up to an additional 50 calories a day.  Think about that.  Each week you would burn off an additional 350 calories.  This happens while you’re asleep, watching T.V. or at work.  Now, do the math.  What would happen if you added five lbs of lean muscle tissue.  (That’s an additional1750 calories burned)  Bottom line:  Building lean muscle tissue is one of the most effective fat loss strategies you can use.

Women Who Add Lean Muscle Look Smaller - A pound of muscle and a pound of fat weigh the same.  (Don’t be fooled)  However, a pound of muscle takes up much less space on your body than a pound of fat.  That’s because muscle is very dense tissue (think metal) and fat is very porous tissue (think sponge).  So, when women lift weights it improves their muscle’s tonus - this creates a firm, sculpted and "smaller" look. 

Men Can Pack On Size and Strength - Testosterone is an amazing hormone.  It significantly increases the rate of muscular development from resistance training.  It allows men to pack on far more muscle than women.  Knowing this, men can use their muscle building body chemistry to their advantage.  They can increase muscle size and or sculpt their muscles to create the look they want.

Functional Benefits - Both men and women reap the benefits of developing muscular strength from resistance training using free weights and machines.   There is also another component of strength called core or functional strength that conditions the internal muscles of the body.  Developing your muscles for functional strength helps your body move better and more efficiently.  At PHC functional movements can be performed with stability balls, BOSU, kettle balls and a variety of traditional exercise modifications and body weight work.
