Pottstown Boomers take Shape of their Fitness Future!

Baby Boomers Looking For The Perfect Fit
The Baby Boom Generation is transforming every stage of life they pass through!  These people will redefine what it means to be 60, 70, 80 or even 100 years old.  How will we work and play?  Will our later years be a time of new beginnings or a time of crisis?

70 is The New 50
Just last week, I was attending a local networking breakfast and was thrilled to hear a women address the crowd of life in her 70s!  She proudly told the group that at the age of 70 – she joined PHC (6 months ago) works with a personal trainer and loves cycle classes.  Her fitness enthusiasm was a sign of her new beginning and she was proud of her personal accomplishments.  Most importantly, she defined that her health club membership is a PerfectFit   - no matter when you take the first step to getting in shape!

Catch A Glimpse Of The Future
I encourage you to watch The Boomer Century: 1946-2046” is a two-hour documentary that looks to the baby boomers’ past for clues to how this generation of 78 million Americans will shape the future.  Hosted by gerontologist and psychologist Dr. Ken Dychtwald, the program focuses on the boomers’ formative years to reveal the personality traits of a generation that has since rewritten the rules for work, marriage and parenthood, and is now redefining retirement and aging. The final question the program poses, is what kind of future will the baby boomers lead and leave for succeeding generations?

Overcome Exercise Barriers with Pottstown Health Club

Robin Gill, Member Services

Take advantage of the change in seasons to make positive changes in your lifestyle! Finding time to exercise can be challenging, but finding someone who wants to exercise with you may not be! Working out with a buddy can help motivate you to come in to exercise and push you to try something new.

Share a week of fitness with a friend by completing our 5-Day Mini-Membership request.

Show them your favorite workouts, classes and equipment. Pick your favorite experienced, highly trained, certified Personal Trainer and make an appointment for a Parter Personal Training session. Half-hour and hour-long appointments are available on days and times that are convenient to you both.

If a buddy won’t help and you still need motivation, try these tips to overcoming your barriers:

1. Barrier: Lack of Interest      Solution: Prior to starting a program, examine all your options. Would you prefer taking a class or going solo? Are you a morning or night person? Can you dedicate large blocks of time to fitness, or shorter more frequent intervals? Begin by setting goals of getting your body through the door. Once you are here, see a trainer to help with the rest!

2. Barrier: Lack of Motivation     Solution: People are motivated by different things. Set your goal, then choose your reward. Do you want new workout shoes, a heart rate monitor or have a favorite treat? Meet your goals for the month, then splurge! These rewards may be self-indulgent, but a healthier you will be worth it!

3. Barrier: Joint Pain     Solution: According to the Arthritis Foundation, regular, moderate exercise offers benefits to people with arthritis. By exercising, you can reduce joint pain and stiffness, build strong muscle around the joints and increase flexibility and endurance.

4. Barrier: Perceived Lack of Fitness     Solution: Many people feel like they have to get in shape before stepping foot into an exercise club. Don’t worry about that! Many of our members have never exercised before so chances are, they too have felt those awkward moments of trying to set the leg extension. Ask for help! We have PT Express for new members and short-term and long-term Personal Training available to all.

5. Barrier: Can’t Find a Workout Buddy     Solution: Come to Pottstown Health Club at the same time for each workout and you are bound to see the same faces (both members and staff) and learn a few names. Group classes are a great way to make new friends too, but if you need someone right away, consider working with a trainer. Marking the appointment on your calendar for each sessions will definitly help you come on a regular basis and meet your goals faster!
